Symptomatology And Pattern Identification of Myofascial Pain Syndrome (¥°)


Abstract
This clinical study was carried out 31 cases with Lumbar and Low Extremity Pain and Gluteal Myofascial Pain Syndrome, who had been admitted from June, 2000 toSeptember, 2000, in the department of acupuncture and moxibustion, Hanseo University Oriental Medical Hospital.
The results obtained from this study were as follows;
1. We investigated 19 female and 12 male patients. The age distribution was from early 20¢¥s to 70¢¥s, among which 40¢¥s were most common.
2. The most common duration of symptom was less than a year(77.4%).
3. Regarding to diagnosis on radiography, Hemation Nucleus I ulposus and degenerative spondylosis was 12 cases(38.7%) in each, spinal stenosis was 7 cases (22.6%).
4. Regarding to myofascial pain syndrome of gluteus muscles, gluteus medius was the most common, followed by piriformis, gluteus maximus, gluteus minimus.
5. In orthopedic examinations, positive sign in straight leg raising test was 54.8%, positive sign in Milgram test was 45.2%, , and positive sign in Braggard test was 41.9%. In neurologic examinations, sensory loss was seen in 51.6%, motor weakness was 25.8% and decreased deep tendon reflex was 6.5%.
6. According to clinical symptom scale proposed by Chae(1989), grade ¥² was the most common (71.0%), followed by grade ¥±, grade ¥³, grade ¥°. In patients with Gluteal Myofascial Pain Syndrome, order was same.
7. According to treatment outcome scale proposed by Chae(1989), Gocd was the most common (74.2%), followed by Fair, Excellent and Poor. In patients with Gluteal hlyofascial Pain Syndrome, order was same.
